Google Cloud Monitoring metrics next to your cloud costs
External metric: Monitoring Viewer on a validated project, queried live
How Costory uses GCP Cloud Monitoring
Costory queries the Cloud Monitoring API live: GKE CPU, Cloud Storage bytes, Cloud SQL connections, Compute Engine utilization or your own custom metrics, shown next to cost in Advanced Explorer.
It needs only the read only Monitoring Viewer role on the project, granted to the Costory service account, and it does not copy metric data. An admin creates the connection.
Step by step: GCP Cloud Monitoring setup in the Costory docs.
Questions you can ask
“Which GKE workloads use far less CPU than they request?”
“Show Cloud Run cost per request over the last 90 days.”
“Correlate the Cloud SQL cost increase with query volume.”

What the Costory agent can watch, investigate and report on for you, with this in the loop.

Costory notices
A service runs well below its capacity for 30 days.
Rightsizing recommendations grounded in real usage
The agent compares what you pay for compute with what services actually use in CloudWatch or Datadog, then recommends instance sizes to the owning team, with the deploy history attached.
See the playbook
Costory notices
Idle capacity in a node pool stays above your threshold.
Find over-requested Kubernetes workloads and right-size requests
Measure the gap between requested and available CPU and memory, convert it to cost, and get request changes per deployment.

Costory notices
Monthly, or when a unit cost drifts beyond your threshold.
Track cost per customer, per request or per active user
Combine allocated cloud cost with your business and usage metrics to build unit costs that leadership can track over time.

Costory notices
Spend on a team, service or account deviates from its baseline.
Investigate a cost spike and find the deploy behind it
When spend moves, the agent finds the deploy, team and service behind it, checks incidents and provider events from the same window, and posts the likely cause.
