GitHub deploys and releases, joined to your costs
GitHub integration: deploys, PR merges and releases as event markers
How Costory uses GitHub
Costory installs as a GitHub App through OAuth, on the organization or only the repositories you choose. It reads repository metadata, pull requests, deployments and releases, and nothing else.
Webhooks deliver deploys, merged PRs and releases almost as they happen, so they appear as event markers on your cost charts. On GitHub Enterprise, your org policy must allow the app and let webhooks reach Costory.
Step by step: GitHub setup in the Costory docs.
Questions you can ask
“Which deploys last week were followed by a cost change?”
“Did release 4.12 change checkout's cost per request?”
“Log the cause of last week's spike as an event.”
Setup guide: GitHub in the Costory docs.

Costory notices
A service runs well below its capacity for 30 days.
Rightsizing recommendations grounded in real usage
The agent compares what you pay for compute with what services actually use in CloudWatch or Datadog, then recommends instance sizes to the owning team, with the deploy history attached.
See the playbook
Costory notices
Spend on a team, service or account deviates from its baseline.
Investigate a cost spike and find the deploy behind it
When spend moves, the agent finds the deploy, team and service behind it, checks incidents and provider events from the same window, and posts the likely cause.

Costory notices
An anomaly is detected, any time of day.
Investigate anomalies in a Slack thread with the FinOps agent
When an alert fires in #finops or a team channel, reply in the thread and the FinOps agent investigates: which team, which service, which deploy.

Costory notices
Monthly review of spend on older instance families.
Find candidates for newer instance generations and Graviton
Use the compute metadata in your billing data to list older instance families by owner and estimate the impact of upgrading.

An optimization is logged as shipped.
Measure the impact of every optimization you ship
Log each optimization as an event and compare cost before and after, so the team can show what each change saved.

Costory notices
A deploy is followed by a cost change on the same service.
Cost impact of every deploy, from GitHub events
Capture deploys, PR merges and releases from GitHub or your CI/CD pipeline, and see which ones changed cost.
